Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy - September, 2010

Kay and I had the opportunity to visit the Alps this past September. We were awed by spectacular Alpine scenery on a scale we were not accustomed to. In this and the following three posts are samples of what we saw. The Dolomite Mountains of Italy were unique from the rest with the distinctive color of their rugged limestone spires. We were fortunate to be there after the first snow of the season which added a mystical quality.

St. Moritz, Switzerland - September 2010

The day we arrived at St Moritz it was dreary and wet with the surrounding peaks obscured. The next three days were bright and clear showing a fresh dusting of new snow.

Chamonix, France September, 2010

Our first stop with Chamonix. This French resort town lies below Mt Blanc the highest point in Europe at just over15 thousand ft. It is the nearby needle spires that most impressed me however.
