Mount Galiano, BC - August 28, 225

Mount Galiano is the highest point on Galiano Island with a commanding view of the Southern Gulf Islands and the west end of Active Pass. On a clear day the Olympic Mountains would be the backdrop. For us the weather was cloudy and hazy. Nevertheless the view was impressive.

The ferry traffic was continual in Active Pass.

 

Dionisio Marine Provincial Park, BC - August 27, 2025

This park, situated at the northern tip of Galiano Island, is a real gem. Beautiful beaches and sculpted sandstone make this a stunning destination. Currently guide books say this park is water access only with land access necessitating permission from private and First Nations landowners which border the park. We hiked in three miles via the Mystic Woods trail across private land. We were led to this trail by a local waiting on us at a local restaurant. There is also a gated road which bicyclists use to access the park. These access issues  reduce the crowds.
