The West Coast Trail, Vancover Island. Part 1: Pachena Bay to Tsusiat Falls

Brian, Dennis, Patrick and I hiked the WCT July 24 -30 2009. It was a unique and challenging experience with many ladders and boardwalks, and a few cable cars. Much of the way is on the beach and much of the trail is very muddy and full of roots. Brian suggests the trail could be called "Roots and Ladders".If you are looking for wilderness solitude this is not the trail as the camps are crowded every night. However, you will meet lots of interesting people from all over the world. All smiles at the Port Renfrew Community Center waiting for the shuttle bus to Pachena Bay. We're obviously blissfully unaware of what lies ahead
At the WCT information center at Pachena Bay after receiving our orientation. It was very informative. "Hee, hee, just kidding."

Pachena Point

Ending the first day at Michigan Creek.

Wreckage of the Russian freighter "Uzebekistan". At this point we are beginning to feel like rusty relics ourselves

Hanging floats mark campsites and Trail access points.

"Gee Ron, would you please turn off your cell phone!"

Moments before the gas canister fell in.
