Winchester Mountain - July, 28 2010

For my money there are no better views in the North Cascades for effort expended than Winchester Mountain. However lingering snow turned the normally easy hike into a scramble as we had to climb up and around a steep snowfield. It was worth the extra effort as the weather was perfect.
Mt.Shuksan appears between the twin summits of Goat Mtn.

Twin Lakes still had some lingering ice.

Wallace Island - July 13 &14, 2010

Kay and I did an overnight camping excursion to Wallace Island which is a Provincial Marine Park off the northeast shore of Salt Spring.
We had perfect water in Houstoun Passage for our crossing to the Island.

Chivers Point. South Secretary in the distance.

Conover Cove

The old picnic shelter of the abandoned resort is now filled with boaters mementos. There was some entertaining artwork.

Southey Point Light

We ate a relaxing lunch at our launch spot near Southey Bay to put a pleasant end to an excellent adventure.

Vesuvious Bay - July 11, 2010

We paddled from Erskine Point to Vesuvious Bay where we enjoyed lunch on the deck of the restaurant by the ferry landing. We returned via Booth Bay where we rode the flood into Booth Canal.Kay rounding the point into Vesuvious Bay

Vesuvious Bay is considered the warmest swimming beach on the Island.

Walker Hook - July 9, 2010

Kay and I enjoyed a pleasant picnic dinner on the beach at Walker Hook.
