PCT North from Harts Pass - August 20 - 23, 2014

Brian & I decided to take it a bit easier this year for our backpack, staying above 6000 ft on good tread along the PCT north of Harts Pass. It was past peak flower season and too soon for the larch so the clouds were the striking feature that captured our attention.

I'd love to walk this stretch in October.

Hecate Channel BC - August 14, 2014

Hecate Channel separates the north shore of Nootka Island  from Vancouver Island. Kay and I took a morning off from our work at Esperanza to explore the channel east to Tahsis Narrows.
It was Kay and my kind of water.

Bedwell Lakes, Strathcona Park BC - August 8, 2014

The hike to Bedwell lakes was challenging; involving steep steps and ladders. It was worth the effort. The two sub alpine lakes showcased some beautiful mountain scenery.

Buttle Lake, B.C - August 7, 2014

I have long wanted to explore the area in and around Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island. Kay and I finally did it this year. We spent three nights at the Strathcona Park Lodge. One of our adventures was a paddle on Buttle Lake. even though it is part of a reservoir system and shows the impact of logging it has beautiful clear water, dramatic cliffs, and inviting coves.

Erosion has exposed interesting root sculptures.

Kay has fun running a "slalom course" of submerged trunks.
