Lake Twenty-two - June 15, 2016

We were in "Water World" on this hike.
We were surprised to see a dusting of fresh snow on the cliffs

Park Butte Trail - June 8, 2016

It was good to see considerable snow lingering given the rapid melt off this year. However, it did make the going a bit tiresome.

Thankfully the bridge was already in place across Rocky Creek

By the time we reached Morovitz meadow the trail vanished.

We were "walking on water" on this brief section of trail near Rocky Creek.

Jones Island - June 2, 2016

It had been over three decades since Kay and I last set foot on Jones Island. We made the short 2 nautical mile paddle from our launch spot at Deer Harbor. Although Jones has more amenities now they are truly improvements and the island still has its wild feel and is a wonderful place to explore on foot.
Spring Passage was like glass for our crossing.

We always enjoy the fantastic shapes and rich color of the arbutus trunks.

We were surprised to see cactus growing.

Speiden, Stuart, and the Gulf Islands in the distance.

Kay and I were surprised and very happy to see this ochre sea star.
It is the first one we have seen since The wasting disease decimated the population on the West coast a couple of years ago.
