Young Hill - October 23, 2025

The weather co-operated for this delightful hike on this hill above English Camp. Views  to nearby islands and bays and the Olympic Mountains were impressive. The fall colors were great as well.

The Garry Oak leaves were striking.

Then berries on the Arbutus added color to the day.

We descended the other side of the hill to make a loop hike. It was lovely open woodland.

We capped a great day enjoying a fine dinner at Duck Soup.

Cattle Point and Reuben Tarte Park - October 22, 2025

On our second day of our getaway we explored two parks on opposite ends of the island sandwiching a rainy midday.

Aspen Lake, Big Buck Wildlife Unit - October 14, 2025

I found this trail by searching for Winthrop area trails in Alltrails. I'd never heard of it before. It is situated on Washington State Fish and Wildlife property in mostly open grassland. It turned out to be a gem.

Moccasin Lake

For me, the open grassland was the highlight of this hike.

Camas Ridge - October 11, 2025

Fall color was the highlight of this hike. I wanted to get up here to see if the Labor fire had reached this area that we enjoy recreating in. Thankfully it was spared.

The Aspen trees were a glorious gold.

Smoke from the remnants of the Labor fire could be seen in the distance.

Looking north into the Entiat Mountains we could see no evidence of the Sugarloaf fire.
