Railroad Grade - September 4, 209

This was my first time hiking in the high country around Mt Baker this summer. It was good to be back. We were blessed to be hiking under clouds most of the day which kept us cool. Nonetheless the mountain was always visible in bright sunshine so we had great views.

The marmots were plentiful.

The Easton Glacier recedes a bit more every year but is still an awe inspiring sight.

We feasted on mountain blackberries in the meadows.

Little Wenatchee River Gorge - August 30, 2019

This delightful section of the Little Wenatchee River is often overlooked and makes an excellent short hike when it's crowded elsewhere. We did this on a Friday of a Labor Day weekend and  we were the only ones on the trail. There was no one camped in the campground at the trail head either.

 The water was crystal clear.

Summer Paddle Fun - July 24 & 26, 2019

Kay and I paddled in a couple of our favorite places this week. Wednesday our good friend Kay joined us with her paddle board on Chuckanut Bay. Friday evening Kay and I enjoyed a magical time, paddling out of Bowman Bay north to Sares' Head and back.
I never tire of experiencing the Chuckanut Sandstone.

Lake Dorothy - July 8, 2019

This used to be a favorite hike in my early hiking years. But it has been 36 years since I was last here with Kay and our young girls. I can remember them having fun catching tad poles. Although this is a very popular, relatively short hike the damage to the lake shore was much less than I recall from decades ago.

The trail along the lake was rocky in places.

This picture is taken at the same spot where Kay and I camped on our first backpack together 45 years ago.
