Aspen Lake, Big Buck Wildlife Unit - October 14, 2025

 I found this trail by searching for Winthrop area trails in Alltrails. I'd never heard of it before. It is situated on Washington State Fish and Wildlife property in mostly open grassland. It turned out to be a gem.

For me, the open grassland was the highlight of this hike.

First snow in the North Cascades

Camas Ridge - October 11, 2025

 Fall color was the highlight of this hike. I wanted to get up here to see if the Labor fire had reached this area that we enjoy recreating in. Thankfully it was spared.

The Aspen trees were a glorious gold.

Smoke from the remnants of the Labor fire could be seen in the distance.

Looking north into the Entiat Mountains we could see no evidence of the Sugarloaf fire.

Turtleback Mountain -- October 7, 2025

It was wonderful to do this scenic hike again. We had wonderful weather and the calm waters in West Sound made nice reflections. The ferry ride getting there and back is part of the charm.

We enjoyed a glorious sunrise waiting for the ferry at Ship Harbor
